    Non-woven laid scrims Brief Introduction

    This product is a Laid Scrim​ configured for lamination into hot-air balloon envelope fabrics, acting as the hidden tensile grid embedded in or between the nylon / polyester / aramid plies that form the balloon envelope. It is manufactured by chemically bonding continuous filament yarns into a flat-laid open mesh (square or tri-directional), with binder options (PVOH, PVC, Acrylic, or customized) to match balloon-fabric laminating and coating processes. The chemically bonded construction gives the scrim lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/low elongation, and corrosion resistance, making it capable of withstanding the envelope's sustained inflation pressure, repeated heating/cooling cycles, and ground-handling abrasion without adding unnecessary weight to the aircraft.

    Hot-Air Balloon Envelope Grade Property Profile: Dimensional stability, tensile strength, alkali resistance, tear resistance, fire resistance, anti-microbial properties, water resistance — the scrim's low elongation prevents over-stretching of the envelope panels during heat cycles and landing loads, while multi-directional tear resistance arrests crack initiation at seam crossings, gores, and handling nicks. Binder can be tuned (PVOH, heat-sealable acrylic, etc.) to match nylon/polyester/aramid laminating lines without compromising fabric hand or adding boardiness.

    Long Rolls for Balloon-Fabric Laminating Lines: Roll width 200–2,500 mm; roll length up to 50,000 m. Fewer splices per shift on high-speed laminating and coating lines feeding balloon envelope mills — fewer weak spots in finished envelope rolls, more consistent batch appearance, reducing defect risks on flight-critical balloon products.

    Primary Use: Reinforcement for Hot-Air Balloon Envelope Composites

    The core application of this balloon-grade laid scrim is as the hidden tensile grid laminated into or between​ the nylon / polyester / aramid plies that form the hot-air balloon envelope. It is laminated into the envelope stack to:

    Withstand Sustained Inflation Pressure & Heat Cycles

    The envelope sees repeated heating (burner cycles) and cooling across altitude changes, plus landing abrasion. The scrim's multi-directional tensile and tear resistance arrests crack initiation at gore seams, panel corners, and load-tape zones, while low elongation prevents permanent panel distortion that would affect the envelope's volume and flight trim.

    Preserve Gross Lift by Minimal Added Weight

    The scrim adds meaningful tensile reinforcement at very low GSM, keeping the total envelope system weight down — directly protecting gross lift margin, fuel economy, and maximum flight duration, which are the defining metrics of balloon design.

    Improve Throughput on Balloon-Fabric Lines

    50,000 m roll length feeds high-speed laminating and coating lines with fewer splice stops — higher yield per shift, fewer splice-related defects on finished envelope rolls.

    Secondary Applications

     a) Aluminum Foil Composite

    Nove-woven laid scrim is widely applied in aluminium foil industry. It can help manufacture to develop the production efficiency as the roll length can reach 10000m. It also makes the finished product with better apperance.

    b) PVC Flooring

    PVC Flooring is mainly made of PVC,also other necessary chemical material during manufacture. It is produced by calendering,extrusion progress or other manufacture progress, it is devided into PVC Sheet Floor and PVC Roller Floor. Now all major domestic and foreign manufactures are applying it as the reinforcement layer to avoiding the joint or bulge between pieces, which is caused by the heat expansion and contraction of materials.

    c) None-woven category products reinforced

    None-woven laid scrim is widely used as reinforced materail on kinds none-woven fabric, such as fiberglass tissue, polyester mat, wipes, also some top ends, such as medical paper. It can makes none-woven products with higher tensile strength,while just add very little unit weight.
