Non-woven laid scrims for Automotive Outer wheel arch liners
Non-woven laid scrims Introduction
This product is a Laid Scrim (glass, polyester, or hybrid), a cost-effective, open-mesh reinforcement fabric engineered for automotive outer wheel arch liners — the non-woven / GMT / PP-backed shield that sits ahead of or behind the wheel arch to deflect stone chips, mud, and spray. It is manufactured by chemically bonding continuous filament yarns (Glass, Polyester, Carbon, Cotton, Flax, Jute, Viscose, Kevlar, Nomex, etc.) into a flat-laid open mesh (square or tri-directional), then laminated into or between the non-woven / GMT / PP stack that forms the arch liner substrate. Thanks to lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/low elongation, and corrosion resistance, the scrim upgrades a limp or brittle substrate into a dimensionally stable, impact-tolerant composite that survives stone-chip impact, mud slurry wash, road-salt exposure, and NVH vibration/thermal cycles (-40 °C to >100 °C near the brake/engine zone).
Non-woven laid scrims Characteristics
Wheel-Arch Grade Property Profile: Dimensional stability, tensile strength, alkali resistance, tear resistance, fire resistance, anti-microbial properties, water resistance — the glass version survives stone-chip impact, road-salt corrosion, and brake-zone heat cycles; polyester version adds heat sealability and softer hand for trim-side forming; carbon/Kevlar options provide ultra-high specific stiffness for lightweight structural liners.
High Strength & Light Weight: Available in a range of regular mesh sizes and grammages covering the platform's common specifications (from fine to coarse grids, with regular supply grams 6.5g / 8g / 13g / 15.5g etc.), delivering high tensile and tear resistance at minimal added weight — critical for wheel-arch liners where mass adds unsprung/sprung weight. Fully bondable with non-woven, GMT, PP, and resin systems common to automotive interior/exterior pressing lines; each roll length up to 50,000 m.
Long Rolls for Automotive Non-Woven / GMT Lines: Roll width 200–2,500 mm; roll length up to 50,000 m. Fewer splices per shift on high-speed laminating, needle-punch, calender, and trimming lines feeding wheel-arch, rear-shelf, headliner, and door-lining mills.
Non-woven laid scrims Application
Primary Use: Reinforcement for Automotive Undershields
The core application of this automotive-grade laid scrim is as the hidden tensile grid laminated into or between the non-woven / GMT / PP stack that forms the underbody shield — and by extension the same scrim platform also serves rear shelves, headliners, door-linings, seat-back trims, outer wheel-arch liners, engine casing / sound-deadening, foams punched parts within the same Automotive category. It is laminated into the host stack to:
Add Stone-Impact & Underside Abuse Resistance
Undershields take constant gravel impact, road-salt spray, and occasional bottoming. The scrim adds multi-directional tensile and tear resistance at very low GSM, reinforcing the non-woven/GMT sandwich without thickening the tray or adding molded-in stress risers around clip/fastener bosses.
Maintain Dimensional Stability Through Exhaust-Zone Cycles
The scrim's low elongation keeps the undershield flat through press-forming, trimming, and road cycles (-40 °C to >120 °C near exhaust/engine zone, NVH vibration, car-wash / chassis-dyno loading), preserving fit against the underbody and preventing rattle or aeroshield flutter.
Enable Lightweighting & NVH Goals
With glass, carbon, or hybrid scrim options, the same non-woven/GMT stack can be down-gauged while holding strength — supporting OEM lightweighting and NVH damping strategies for exterior and interior trim programs.
Secondary Applications
a) Aluminum Foil Composite
Nove-woven laid scrim is widely applied in aluminium foil industry. It can help manufacture to develop the production efficiency as the roll length can reach 10000m. It also makes the finished product with better apperance.
b) PVC Flooring
PVC Flooring is mainly made of PVC,also other necessary chemical material during manufacture. It is produced by calendering, extrusion progress or other manufacture progress, it is devided into PVC Sheet Floor and PVC Roller Floor. Now all major domestic and foreign manufactures are applying it as the reinforcement layer to avoiding the joint or bulge between pieces, which is caused by the heat expansion and contraction of materials.
c) None-woven category products reinforced
None-woven laid scrim is widely used as reinforced materail on kinds none-woven fabric, such as fiberglass tissue, polyester mat, wipes, also some top ends, such as medical paper. It can makes none-woven products with higher tensile strength, while just add very little unit weight.
d) PVC Tarpaulin
Laid scrim can be used as basic materials to produce truck cover, light awning, banner, sail cloth etc.
Due to lightweight, high strength, low shrinkage/elongation, corrosion preventive, laid scrims offers tremendous value compared to conventional material concepts. And it's easily to laminate with many kinds of materials, this makes it has an extensive fields of applications.
