Polyester net fabric Laid Scrims for FRP pipe fabrication
Polyester Laid Scrims Brief Introduction
This product is a Polyester Laid Scrim, a cost-effective, open-mesh reinforcement fabric engineered as a supplementary tensile grid in FRP (fiberglass-reinforced plastic) filament-wound or hand-layup pipe fabrication. It is made from continuous polyester filament yarns in a chemically bonded, flat-laid open mesh (square or tri-directional), with binder options (PVOH, PVC, Acrylic, customized) to match polyester/vinyl ester resin systems used in FRP pipe workshops. Compared with glass-fiber scrims, the polyester version offers softer hand, better resin compatibility, and easier conformability around curved mandrels and fittings — useful when the scrim is placed between wound roving layers or over the surface veil to restrain ring-wise cracking, longitudinal splitting, and handling damage during demolding, hydrostatic test, and installation. Configurable: roll width 200–2,500 mm, roll length up to 10,000 m, yarn types (Polyester led, also Glass, Carbon, Kevlar, Nomex, etc.), construction square / tri-directional, patterns 0.8–3 yarns/cm.
Polyester Laid Scrims Characteristics
FRP-Pipe Adapted Polyester Properties: Tensile strength, dimensional stability, tear resistance, alkali resistance, fire resistance, anti-microbial properties, water resistance — a profile that pairs with polyester/vinyl ester matrices and survives the mandrel release, rolling, and field-burial cycles of municipal/industrial FRP piping (seawater intake, desalination, chemical effluent, cooling-water loops).
High Strength & Light Weight: Page data: CF12.5×12.5PH (12.5×12.5mm, 6.2–6.6 g/m²), CF10×10PH (10×10mm, 8–9 g/m²), CF6.25×6.25PH (6.25×6.25mm, 12–13.2 g/m²), CF5×5PH (5×5mm, 15.2 g/m²); regular supply mesh also 12.5×6.25mm, regular supply grams 6.5g / 8g / 13g / 15.5g etc. High strength-to-weight, fully bondable with almost any material, each roll 10,000 m.
Long Rolls for Pipe Winding / Hand-Layup Lines: Roll width 200–2,500 mm; each roll length can be 10,000 meters — "It can help manufacture to develop the production efficiency as the roll length can reach 10000m," and gives finished products better appearance. Fewer splices per shift on mandrel-winding or veil-laminating stations, fewer weak spots in finished pipe runs.

Polyester Laid Scrims Application
Primary Use: Reinforcement in FRP Pipe Fabrication
The core application of this polyester laid scrim is as a supplementary tensile / crack-restraint grid placed between wound roving layers, or over the surface veil / outer wall of FRP pipes, fittings, and flanges during fabrication. It is laminated into the resin stack to:
Restrain Ring-Wise Cracking & Longitudinal Splitting
Filament-wound FRP pipes see hoop stress from internal pressure and axial stress from soil load / thermal cycling. The scrim's multi-directional tensile supplements the roving layup, arresting micro-cracks that start at resin-rich zones or mandrel release edges and could otherwise run into full circumferential or longitudinal splits.
Protect Surface During Demolding, Handling & Hydrostatic Test
FRP pipes are rolled, lifted, and hydro-tested before burial. The scrim (especially placed as an outer-grid) resists scrape, impact, and handling tear, keeping the outer diameter clean for jointing and coating.
Improve Resin Compatibility & Conformability on Curved Mandrels
Polyester yarn + compatible binder gives better wet-out with polyester/vinyl ester resins than glass scrim, and the open mesh conforms around elbows, reducers, and flanged ends without bridging or wrinkling — useful for fittings and custom spools.
Secondary Applications
this polyester laid scrim is also extensively applied in:
Aluminum Foil Composite
Non-woven laid scrim is widely applied in the aluminium foil industry; 10,000 m roll length helps manufacturers improve production efficiency and gives finished products better appearance.
PVC Flooring
PVC flooring is mainly made of PVC plus other necessary chemical material during manufacture. It is produced by calendering, extrusion or other progress, divided into PVC Sheet Floor and PVC Roller Floor. Now all major domestic and foreign manufacturers are applying it as the reinforcement layer to avoid the joint or bulge between pieces, which is caused by the heat expansion and contraction of materials.
Non-Woven Category Reinforcement
Non-woven laid scrim is widely used as reinforced material on kinds non-woven fabric, such as fiberglass tissue, polyester mat, wipes, also some top ends, such as medical paper — it can make non-woven products with higher tensile strength, while just adding very little unit weight.
Technical Coated Fabrics
Laid scrim can be used as basic material to produce truck cover, light awning, banner, sail cloth etc.
