    Fiberglass Laid Scrims Brief Introduction

This product is a Fiberglass Laid Scrim engineered as a dimensional-stabilizing reinforcement layer for wood flooring systems (including engineered wood, laminate, SPC/WPC composite wood-plastic flooring, and parquet overlays). It is manufactured from continuous E-glass filament yarns arranged in a flat-laid, open-mesh construction and chemically bonded at the intersections (PVOH / PVC / Acrylic or customized binder). Unlike woven fiberglass cloth, the laid scrim keeps yarns in a straight, low-crimp path, delivering multi-directional tensile support while adding minimal weight and thickness — which matters for wood flooring where the decorative veneer or wear layer is often only 2–4 mm thick.

The scrim is laminated between the core board and the backing layer, or sandwiched into the balancing layer of engineered wood, to suppress expansion/contraction differentials between face and back, reduce joint gapping or edge lifting, and improve the floor's tolerance to seasonal humidity swings. Gadtex (Xuzhou Gadtex Technology / Shanghai Gadtex Industry) has been producing laid scrim since 2018 and currently supplies around 50 item variants; this wood-flooring grade builds on the same platform used for PVC flooring reinforcement, but tuned for wood-substrate lamination temperatures, adhesive systems, and curl control.

    Fiberglass Laid Scrims Characteristics

Dimensional Stability for Wood-Substrate Systems:Wood and wood-plastic composites naturally expand/contract with humidity and temperature. The laid scrim acts as a low-profile "invisible skeleton" that restrains differential movement between face and back, reducing the risk of joint gaping, edge cupping, and lock-system stress failure in floating or glued-down installations.

High Tenacity + Low Elongation:Continuous E-glass filaments provide high tensile strength with very low creep under sustained load — important because wood flooring lives under constant static load (furniture) plus dynamic load (foot traffic). The scrim helps the floor "remember" its laid position.

Flexible Yet Tear-Resistant:Despite the glass yarn, the open-laid construction remains flexible enough to go through calender lamination or roll-pressing with the wood core, yet the bonded nodes give tear-initiation resistance during handling, cutting, and click-lock assembly.

Low Shrinkage & Heat Resistance:Compatible with hot-press lamination cycles used in engineered wood / SPC lines. The scrim itself does not shrink back when the board cools, which helps avoid post-lamination curl — a common complaint when unbalanced backing is used.

Alkali Resistance, Corrosion Resistance & Fire Resistance:E-glass base gives inherent moisture and alkali tolerance (relevant when flooring sits over concrete subfloor with residual alkalinity), plus non-combustible backbone that supports the floor system's overall fire strategy.

    Fiberglass Laid Scrims Application

Primary Use: Reinforcement Layer in Wood Flooring Systems

The core and specialized application of this fiberglass laid scrim is the dimensional stabilization of engineered wood, laminate, SPC/WPC, and parquet flooring. It is laminated between the core board and backing layer, or embedded into the balancing structure, to:

Prevent Joint Gaping & Edge Lifting

The scrim restrains differential expansion between the face and back layers caused by humidity changes, significantly reducing gaps between planks and edge curling that compromise floor appearance and function.

    Maintain Flatness & Prevent Cupping/Crowning

Multi-directional tensile support from the laid scrim keeps each plank flat over time, resisting the bowing or dishing that occurs under uneven moisture absorption or static loads.

    Enhance Lock-System Reliability

By sharing shear stress between core and backing, the scrim reduces stress concentration on click-lock edges, preventing breakage during installation and long-term use.

    Secondary Applications

Due to its versatile reinforcement properties and open mesh design, this type of laid scrim is also extensively applied in numerous other industrial sectors:

    PVC Flooring

Serves as a critical stabilizing layer to counteract thermal expansion and contraction, preventing joint separation or bulging.

    Aluminum Foil Composite

Applied to fiberglass tissue, polyester mats, and wipes to increase tensile strength with minimal weight addition.
