    Polyester Laid Scrims Brief Introduction

Scrim is a cost-effective reinforcing fabric made from continuous filament yarn in an open mesh construction. The laid scrim manufacturing process chemically bonds non-woven yarns together, enhancing the scrim with unique characteristics.

Ruifiber makes special scrims to order for specific usages and applications. These chemically bonded scrims permit our customers to reinforce their products in a very economical manner. They are designed to satisfy our customers' requests, and to be highly compatible with their process and product.

    Polyester Laid Scrims Characteristics

Technical-Textile Adapted Properties: The scrim delivers high tenacity, dimensional stability, flexibility, low shrinkage, low elongation, alkali resistance, fire resistance, and corrosion resistance (glass version), or tensile + tear + heat-sealable + water-resistant (polyester version) — a profile that fits sailcloth, truck covers, awnings, and banners exposed to outdoor cycling (UV, wind, rain, salt spray).

High Strength & Light Weight: Regular specs from the page data sheet: CF12.5×12.5PH (12.5×12.5mm, 6.2–6.6 g/m²), CF10×10PH (10×10mm, 8–9 g/m²), CF6.25×6.25PH (6.25×6.25mm, 12–13.2 g/m²), CF5×5PH (5×5mm, 15.2 g/m²); regular supply mesh also includes 12.5×6.25mm, and regular supply grams: 6.5g, 8g, 13g, 15.5g etc. High strength-to-weight ratio lets the coated fabric gain tear resistance and tensile rating without bulking or losing flexibility — useful for sailcloth panels, truck curtains, and large-format banners.

    Polyester Laid Scrims Application

Primary Use: Base Reinforcement for Sailcloth, Truck Covers, Light Awnings & Banners

The core and specialized application of this laid scrim is as the hidden tensile skeleton laminated into or behind coated fabrics for sailcloth, truck covers, light awnings, and banners. It is sandwiched between coating layers (PVC, PU, acrylic, etc.) or into the fabric stack to:

Deliver Tear Propagation Resistance Under Wind Load

Sailcloth and truck covers are constantly shaken by wind and sometimes loaded by pooled rain or snow. The scrim's multi-directional tensile arrests tear initiation at hems, grommets, and seam crossings, preventing a small nick from running across the whole panel.

Maintain Tension & Dimensional Stability Outdoors

The scrim's low elongation and dimensional stability keep the panel from sagging, billowing, or stretching out of shape after repeated sun-rain-salt cycles — preserving the clean silhouette of awnings, banners, and sail panels and reducing re-tensioning.

    Enable High-Speed Coating Throughput

Roll length up to 10,000 m and widths to 2,500 mm feed wide-format coating lines with fewer splices — fewer joint-related weak points in finished rolls, less material waste on start-stop.

    Secondary Applications

Per the product page, this laid scrim (fiberglass/polyester) is also extensively applied in:

    Aluminum Foil Composite

Non-woven laid scrim is widely applied in the aluminium foil industry; 10,000 m roll length helps manufacturers improve production efficiency and gives finished products better appearance.

    PVC Flooring

PVC flooring is mainly made of PVC plus other necessary chemical materials via calendering or extrusion, divided into sheet and roller types. All major domestic and foreign manufacturers now apply laid scrim as the reinforcement layer to avoid joint separation or bulging between floor pieces caused by thermal expansion and contraction.

    Non-Woven Category Reinforcement

Non-woven laid scrim is widely used as reinforcement on kinds of non-woven fabric, such as fiberglass tissue, polyester mat, wipes, and top-end items such as medical paper — increases tensile strength with minimal unit weight addition.
